LPI School Leader
Mrs. Leea-Merica Murphy
School Leader, Legacy Prep Intermediate
I am deeply honored to begin this school year serving as the Principal of Legacy Prep Intermediate Charter School, after previously serving as the Assistant Principal. Stepping into this role is both exciting and humbling, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead a school and community that I love. My leadership is rooted in the core values of Excellence, Boldness, Perseverance, Wonder, and Love. My daily mission is to ensure we are delivering a high-quality education while meeting the needs of the whole child, so that our mission and vision are evident in every classroom, every decision, and every scholar’s experience.
With seventeen years in public education, my career has spanned both middle and elementary school settings. I served twelve years in middle school and five years in elementary education. These experiences have given me a comprehensive understanding of student development across critical stages. I hold a dual Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which laid the foundation for a ten-year journey as a classroom teacher. That experience fueled my passion for instruction and ultimately led me into leadership roles as an Interventionist, Early Literacy Coach, and Instructional Coach. In these roles, I developed deep expertise in curriculum, data-driven instruction, and teacher development.
While serving as an Early Literacy Coach, I earned a Master’s degree in Reading from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and became a certified Reading Specialist. Committed to continuous improvement as a leader, I later earned certification in Instructional Leadership. I am proud to share that I graduated in August 2025 with an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership, also from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

My previous experience as an Assistant Principal strengthened my leadership capacity in schoolwide operations, instructional coaching, teacher support, and culture building. Across every role, I have prioritized relationship building, shared leadership, clear communication, and systems that empower both educators and scholars to thrive.

My greatest passion is literacy. I firmly believe it is the gateway to opportunity, equity, and long-term success. At a time when our nation is facing a literacy crisis, I remain committed to being part of the solution. Each day, I am fueled by the responsibility to ensure our scholars are prepared to read, think critically, lead boldly, and compete successfully in a global society.

I am excited about the work ahead and the relationships we will continue to build within the Legacy Prep community. Most importantly, I am honored to serve as Principal with purpose, dedication, perseverance, and love. My commitment is to ensure every scholar receives the high-quality education, support, and experiences they deserve.
