Child Find is a statewide effort by the State Department of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation Services to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities (Part B) and need early intervention service (Part C) as described in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Legacy Schools ensure that all children, ages birth to twenty-one, within it’s district are identified.  The Child Find procedure also applies to children who attend private schools, migrant and homeless children, or children who are wards of the state.

School-related services for students with disabilities are provided in accordance with Section 504 of the 1973 Vocational Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Child Find is an attempt to locate and provide appropriate educational and related services to all students with disabilities who are eligible according to federal regulations and local school district procedures.  If you are a parent or guardian of a child with disabilities who is possibly in need of educational accommodations and not receiving services, please contact Dr. LaKeshya Russ, Coordinator of Special Education Services at (205) 573-0777.
